Creative Writing Instructor

Communication Academy aspires to improve students' communication skills at a younger age. Communication Academy offers a series of public speaking, debate, writing and reading classes and SAT Prep classes for K-12th graders and professional public speaking and writing for adults in the South and East Bay. We have partnered with the following cities and school districts to offer classes: Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Campbell, Fremont, Livermore, Santa Clara, Milpitas and De Anza College.

We are currently looking for fun, inspiring, passionate instructors to teach students Creative Writing and Academic Writing, along with reading comprehension and SAT prep courses. Our classes are small and require no grading. Our instructors are highly compensated and supported. Join a rapidly growing company with a unique offering.

Job Description

Creative Writing/Academic Writing Instructors:

  • Teach Creative Writing skills to 3-12 grades
  • Assist students in learning to use clear and effective writing and creative self-expression
  • Assist students to revise through beginning and final drafts and create images of their story for their audience
  • Help students to create fun and supportive environment
  • Small class size

SAT Prep Instructors

  • Teach SAT prep courses in writing and critical reading for middle and high school students
  • Small class size

Requirements: Creative Writing/SAT Prep Instructors

  • BA in English Literature or equivalent, MA a plus
  • Licensed Teaching Credential with proven experience in teaching academic writing
  • Minimum two years of experience in teaching English or Creative Writing in schools or college
  • Dynamic, articulate, patient, reliable, fun loving, professional
  • Enjoy working with students of all ages

MUST be available on weekday afternoons between 3:30-6:30 PM and/or Saturdays! Only those applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be considered. No phone calls! We offer competitive rates, dependent upon experience.

Public Speaking and Debate Instructor

Job Description:

Public Speaking Instructors:

  • Teach Public Speaking classes for K-12th grade students (in different age groups)
  • Instruct basic and advanced delivery skills and speech organization
  • Coach students in different types of speech
  • Teach from supplied curriculum
  • Create fun and supportive environment
  • Small class size

Requirements: Drama/Public Speaking Instructors

  • BA in Communication Studies, Education, Drama or related fields; MA a plus
  • Minimum two years of experience in teaching or coaching public speaking, debate or drama in schools, colleges or corporations
  • Dynamic, articulate, patient, reliable, fun loving, professional
  • Enjoy working with students of all ages

Ideal Candidates:

  • Drama teachers
  • Communication Studies instructors in college or high school
  • Speech and debate coaches in college or high school
  • Graduate students in Communication Studies or Language Arts with some teaching experience
